For those of you who haven't done much in the way of theatre, let me tell you that, no matter what aspect you participate in, it can get to be all consuming of time and mental energy! Yesterday was a bit of a marathon. We got there around noon to do things. This is a key word for doing all the little things that will help move the show from looking disorganized and half assed to looking better organized and less half assed. :) I spent at least 45 minutes steaming a drape. It could have been longer or shorter. Hard to say. I sort of zoned out after a while.
I also helped Al (the director) with a couple of other tasks, like rehanging the line that makes the Cinderella's dress magically appear. After that, a quick bite to eat at Eddie O'Brien's - hard to beat their half price appetizers! - and then back to the theatre for the most tedious job ever. Being a lighting dummy. Imagine standing in one place and not knowing when you will be asked to move. You can't read, you can't talk, just stand there - with instrument after lighting instrument burning into your retinas. As soon as you move, it starts all over again. Sometimes you do get to sit, or walk in circles. Sometimes you get to side step across a space. All in all, very, very draining. Next, Tech/Dress rehearsal! It would have been nifty if there had been a full runthrough of the show without tech at some point. Or at least a cue-to-cue rehearsal (this is where the actors basically stop and start at as the technical stuff gets worked into the show). But apparently there isn't/wasn't time for such a thing. So the tech/dress/final dress, was, well, not optimal. Not terrible for a first go through, but not great. Lots of messed up light cues. A bunch of messed up technical cues. Oh well. It will go just fine in the long run!
But, since it was so lumpy, we are getting to have a technical rehearsal today, on our day off. Yippee!
While this is all happening, I feel like I am ignoring my poor mom. We have no routine just now, no schedule. I hope she is eating! I did do well by her the day before yesterday. Yesterday, though, who the heck knows?! And today, we were supposed to have a nice day together - but I forgot about Ginger (house cleaner/nurse) and her visit. And then another rehearsal was called...
How about embroidered shirts for Diary of a Plate Addict?
I have looked up information about Spanish classes and there are a few offered at HWS this semester. Yippee! I will head to the registrar on Monday and see what the next step is...
Ok, pictures from August 3, 2011:
