New Obsession

Who hasn't had at least one or two obsessions in their lives? Not addictions, at least, not in my case. I don't think I have ever been addicted to anything. Obsessed? Sure. Lots of times. The good thing about obsessions in my life thus far, is that they often end and that they haven't been particularly life threatening. My new current obsession is a teeny game on my iPhone called Word Jigsaw. I may even splurge on it and buy the pro package. We shall see. Right now, I am thoroughly enjoying playing the medium size - over and over and over again. Each game seems a little different and they last between 25 seconds or so to 5 minutes or so depending on how difficult I find them.

Nice day yesterday, besides a Smith SNAFU. The sound system didn't want to work, though it eventually did. After I had to let everyone go home. Sigh. Other than that, though, I had a pleasant day.

It started off with hot chocolate with a friend. Yes, an actual hot beverage. One of the few that I will occasionally enjoy. At Opus. I don't go there a lot, but have never had a bad experience there. I do sometimes still miss the Asian restaurant that was there, though...

I did a little grocery shopping (actually asked the scarf receiver to send me a selfie of her wearing the thing - though I doubt that will ever happen), bought a new pair of kitchen scissors (though these too have plastic handles - sigh) and partook of all sorts of free samples of food stuffs at Wegman's.

The time at home was pretty pleasant, too. Mom ate her lunch easily. I played her music on a CD player - our new thing. Napped a little (didn't sleep particularly well for whatever reasons). I did some work on the puzzle (no picture today), cleaned the kitchen, later heated up leftovers - I really need to pull the trigger and get a new to the house stove. I can't decide whether to go for Lowes and a new, new one - or go to Universal Appliance and get a refurbished one. I am leaning towards UA because they are local and weird. We shall see on Monday or Tuesday. Later, I let mom watch Doc Martin while I went to my room and watched the second Percy Jackson movie. I tried to find out if the third was scheduled, but apparently it was canned. Oh well. The PJ movie was decent - as long as one had no expectations of great art.

I keep forgetting that tomorrow (Monday) is a holiday. I hope an aide comes, since we didn't have one on Friday...

I lost my shirt!

Literally! I know it is here somewhere. I was wearing a purple flannel shirt (a little threadbare) out and about today. And now I can't find it. Sigh. Oh, there it is. Nevermind...

I am a little different, but then again, so is everybody. My little difference for the nonce is how I love making up little forms and databases and spreadsheets. Not that I will use them consistently, but they make me feel like my life is a teeny bit more betterly organized. I am working right now on scheduling people to help me out with productions at the Smith. It allows me to make sure that at least a few of my t's are dotted and i's crossed!

A slow week at the Smith is a good thing. Especially after the week we just had. Yay, even. I will be doing a few things this week, but nothing too strenuous or stressful.

I really need to get the schedule changed for Jenny and aides to the house. I can't decide about the weekend. Do I want to use the six hours for one day a week and then pay for a seventh? Or use the six hours during the week as 4 and 2 and then pay for two one hours on the weekend? Decisions, decisions...Took the first baby step towards this, asking the county if I make the change through them or directly with the agency.

Trivia is fun. Last night I ventured out for a social occasion. Felt a little weird, actually. I haven't been out on a social occasion in what seems like a long time (though it has only been a couple of weeks, really). Maybe it is all the work that has been going on at the Smith. Anyway, I played with a team made up mostly of grad students from the Cornell experiment station. We did ok. Opted not to answer two questions we did have an answer for and came in fifth or something. Not terrible, but not great either. I had two beers - one was the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter - which wasn't as vanilla-y or porter-y as I recalled. Still dandy, but just not as full as I remembered. And Naked Dove Scotch Porter - which was pretty good.

All in all a decent day!

Third Epiphany-let

Mom has problems with working the television remote - she gets frustrated by not knowing if she is on the right channel or doing the right thing. Currently, one channel causes the biggest problem - there are two of the same channel - a Digital Version - which currently has nothing being broadcast on it - and the Analog channel which is the correct one. I believe there is a way to delete channels - so I will delete the digital channel 8 and that ought to fix a part of mom's problems. (Turns out, not so easy to do - sigh - need to find the manual - online if no where else - and haven't done that yet...)

This is a different sort of thought - not really an epiphany - I am going to use a huge post-it note - I mean 2.5 feet by 3 feet - and put some important television information on there for mom. That might work. Might not - it depends on whether or not I find my easel - I think it is in the living room. It could, of course, be just about anywhere...(Found it and have a prototype up on it - we shall see if it helps at all)

Yesterday, the new aide came back again. Mom had been in a snit about her. Well, after she came, Mom mellowed out and actually let her help with a shower. Yay! I like having a clean mom. Speaking of which, today is laundry day - again - but I have left it a little long! Eeek! I might need two big machines at the laundromat. And mom is thinking of coming. Yippee.

And if I don't make the deviled eggs today, the darn avocado is going to be rotten. Darn this fresh food thing! Grrr, even.

Mom and I were going to see a play at Hobart and William Smith last night - she got dressed and everything. And we walked all the way over there (Less than a block - don't get me started on taking mom for a walk) (At least I can be pretty secure in the notion that mom will not try wandering off someday...) only to find that I had misunderstood the time - I thought the play started at 7:30 - oops - started at 7:00. So we got there after the play had started. I chose not to try to go in. Mom didn't understand why I refused so adamantly. Does anyone else hate missing the beginning of something and therefore, when possible, choose not to go in? The exposition usually happens in the very beginning and I don't like being in the dark (not literally - I don't mind the dark - but figuratively - not knowing what is going on). Fine, call me weird. We are going to try again tonight. Huzzuh!
