I Love Slocks

If anyone has the urge to give me a present, you can rarely go wrong with a nice or interesting pair of slocks. I don't know i this is what they are really called, but that is what I call them. Slipper socks. Slippers with non-skid thingies on the bottom. Meant to be worn in the house in place of, a lieu de, slippers. Yippee! I think I have six pairs now, though a few pairs are getting a bit worn around the edges. Regular socks are ok gifts as well. Not so in to ties...

Flakes

Hate 'em. And I am not a hater. What, you may ask, or who, is a flake? Aha! A flake would probably not even ask that question. According to the urban dictionary - well, better to let the dictionary speak for itself - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=flaky - So a person is a flake who acts in a flaky manner. In my world, this just seems to be a terrible thing to be. Most politicians are flakes. Sadly, it seems that most people on the planet are flakes at one time or another. And yes, I have been a flake, not proud of it and endeavor to not be one frequently. Just say no to being a flake. If you say you are going to do something, do it. If you are nice to me in private, be nice to me in public. If you are my friend, act like one - whether you are my friend in real life or even just a friend on Facebook. Urban dictionary again on friend - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=friend. Yeah. Let's do that, rather than do the flake thing.

Maybe a monk

My friend Jeff swears that he was a monk in a previous life. Ok, swears might be too strong a word - still he does say it. And it could be true. Lately, I am thinking I might have been one also. Back in the day, there were lots of monks and monkettes. Or wait, nuns? Seemed like a mostly safe place to be. Daily food, a bit of hard work, a bit of not so hard work, lots of chanting. Early to rise, early to bed and all that stuff. In any case, I keep finding myself awake around 3 in the morning. And I feel very creative. So rather than fight it, I take out my laptop and do some writing. Yippee. I usually work for an hour or so and then go back to sleep. Last night, I started a fantasy story and worked on my Flying Saucer book. By the way, I am still looking for a graphic designer to help me with the Plate Addict project. They don't have to be available to work at 3 in the morning...

Starting Over, Again

I had a 3 am epiphany last night on how to organize my book about me and the Flying Saucer. Sigh. Means I have to, er, get to start over again. Not from scratch, but with more focus. That is a good thing. Still looking for a designer, though. I am going to need help - this will be a picture and words book. Hopefully full color! Woo hoo!

Ear Broken - Two

Adventure of the neti pot! When I got my ear candles at Harmony Farms in Raleigh - cool place, btw - I also splurged and got a neti pot. One of my favorite people, with whom I have lost touch sadly, Mark Sanford, extoled the virtues of the neti pot years back. I had heard of them, just never experienced them. So, with my ear being broken and me knowing that ears and the nose are somehow intertwined, I decided to take the plunge. My largest fear was of drowning. That's right. Drowning. I have had way too many near death experiences with water and I wasn't relishing another one. Today I took that brave step forward. Into the shower I went, neti pot and saline packet in hand (or near by). I put some water in the neti pot - warm, not hot or cold! - and mixed in what I thought was a small amount of the saline powder recommended by the experts at Harmony Farms. Into my nose went the neti pot - I tilted my head to the side and started pouring. I poured about three seconds worth and it started coming out my other nostril, just like it said it would! Yippee! I decided to try the other nostril. Eeeek! It burns! I guess I hadn't stirred the solution enough or something - and my head wasn't tilted enough. Not a pretty picture. True, I didn't drown, but I also wasn't as pleased with this nostril's experience. My ear, sadly, is still broken. And I will neti again - perhaps in my very next shower. We shall see. What to try next? Acupuncture or back to Chiropractic. I am leaning towards acupuncture first.

Broken Ear

Step One - Ear Candling - I am not a fan of Western Medicine. Medicate, Cut, or prevaricate. So I am opting to try some alternative medicine strategies. My first foray into this has been using an ear Candle. This is a ten inch waxy candle like thing that you stick into your ear and set on fire. It burns down about six inches - douse and repeat - three times I read somewhere. I just tried it twice. At the end there is some residue down in the bottom of the candle - the part that was in your ear. I don't know what it is, but if even some of that came out of my ear - ick! It didn't help my ear at all that I can tell, but it was an interesting experience. And I will probably repeat it - at some point. I have put a call for other people's ear candling experiences on Facebook - but honestly I think that most of my friends don't pay any attention to my status updates. :( Next time - Neti pot!
